About Me

View my complete profile
Born in 1952 and influenced by the massive art books in the village library of Wollaton in Nottingham, UK, Charles Stuart was lost in a dream world of adolescence without a plan – just following his passion for color. At 17 he entered his painting for the prestigious John Moores Liverpool Exhibition certain of first prize. Unfortunately for Charles, this was the moment in art history when painters were losing their way and wondering if “Painting Is Dead.” Large blank canvases were the order of the day and it was against this conceptual and minimalist trend that he had to find his own dialogue and create a new style. His own style, which he calls Abstract Impressionism, is full of movement and light, combines color fields with strong gestural brush strokes to express movement, speed, figures, crowds and life at its most vivid. Painter, photographer, teacher, designer and video maker (as seen on ClassicFM TV!), Charles Stuart is inspired by artists such as Mark Rothko and the Abstract Expressionists."
